Debating with Proof

by Muhammad Abdullah

An intricate point explained in an easy to understand manner by our respected Shaykh [Saleem Dhorat]:

“A principle of debating that we learn from the Qur’aan is that we should inform the opposing party to bring their proofs and say to them that if we find their proofs acceptable then we are willing to accept their view. Those who have a fair mindset will thus look for the evidence and through their research will become aware of the falsehood that they are peddling.

When they won’t find the evidence then they will accept what we have to say. And because the argument will now be undertaken on the basis of proofs they will show a greater inclination to listen to what we are putting forth.”
